It's not an easy task to create a web site that processes hundreds of artist applications and also promotes them. It was extremely helpful to work with developers who also love art and culture.
Since the event targeted a young audience, creating a simple, responsive design was a given. The bigger challenges were in developing a totally new brand while building and launching the new site in both Korean and English languages – all in less than 2 months. Oh, and there was a very modest budget too.
Favorite Medium worked closely with Zandari to develop the site’s conceptual framework and then moved to the custom CMS built in Django. Before long, it became clear this wasn’t just a marketing website but a web app – features included dynamic mapping, real-time updates to schedules and a deep database that continued to grow after the site’s initial launch. Favorite Medium also built in other components that could be activated once more content was developed (annual artist line up archives, artist-submitted data, etc.).
Zandari is moving into its third year and with its growth, the site has become a centralized resource for artists and their management, sponsors and event attendees from all over the world. By bringing a wide variety of indie arts and culture together, Zandari is at the helm of interweaving online and offline experiences in Korea.
