Metlife Innovation: Fitness Go!

Helping time-crunched people do their squats and crunches

About

MetLife provides health insurance and wellness programs to promote the health and well-being of its customers. Its wellness programs, including a digital health platform, offer personalized health assessments, coaching, and tools to help individuals manage their health and achieve their wellness goals.

The Situation

MetLife’s innovation lab asked Favorite Medium to brainstorm ideas for a digital service promoting healthier lifestyle for Japan and Korea. Drawing on market research for these two countries, we found a lack of fitness apps — especially in Japan — and saw an opportunity to create one. The result is Fitness GO, a high intensity interval training app for busy people to get the most out of their workout anytime, anywhere.

How We Helped

A key part of this project was identifying data privacy regulations unique to each country. Working closely with MetLife, we ensured that the app securely stores user data in geographically isolated data centers. With a successful launch in both countries, MetLife plans to release Fitness GO in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region as well.

  • Designed the product interface and branding for the Japanese and Korean markets with a keen awareness of cultural context
  • Ensured the app was easy and appealing to use; clear design and pleasant animations give the app an approachable look and feel
  • Introduced gamified content with badges and rewards to improve engagement and user retention
  • Localized content into Japanese, Korean, and English
  • Conformed to strict data privacy laws in each country
